I have many core beliefs that define me as a person – no matter if I am in a business or private function. Still it makes sense to cultivate certain aspects of ones persona for business settings and some for private settings. Of course this differs from person to person but for my professional work environment and me as a person it makes absolutely sense.

It is definitely OK to not think about this topic at all and to just naturally go with the flow in every moment. For me personally it made a huge psychological difference to more clearly separate between settings. It allows for more focus in what I try to achieve professionally and personally and a clearer schedule with less emotional drain.

Things you might enjoy too:

  • more clearly distinguish between professional and personal commitments and plan your schedule bindingly in both areas
  • be aware of what your environments expect from you and be sure about your own expectations
  • reflect, try to act more consciously and with purpose
  • also separate your digital presence into your self-defined functions more clearly (I use designated browser profiles to even keep my online interactions separated)
